Egg Foo Young, Mongolian Lamb, Braised beef, Deep fried chicken, mini dim sims, calamari, prawn toast, seafood, desserts and coffee. Folks, you can pack all of that and more away for just ten dollars.
I’m talking about the lunchtime special at The Great Wall Restaurant situ at 75 George Street. See map.
The lovely Stephanie, who runs the Great Wall and her team do a great job in bringing these delectable dishes to the hungry Bathurstians, looking for a good midday nosh, Tuesday to Friday. There is no Monday lunch.
Enter the restaurant and you’ll be greeted ny either Stephanie or one of her crew, and if you opt for the smorgasbord lunch you’ll be given a table, given a plate; you choose either chop sticks or eating irons – that’s fork and spoon and directed to help yourself, and that’s where the fun part of it begins.
My favourite Redhead, and her mum are Egg Foo Young – okay, omelette, fans, and boy, does Great Wall cook up a mean omelette, chokka with prawns and vereee tastee.
I love it to bits, but I’m a bit of a seafood fan meself and aim straight for the battered fish pieces and the sweet and sour sauce, the idea, you see, is to create your own sweet and sour dish.
Then there to tempt me is the calamari, crunchy coating, melt-in-the-mouth calamari and prawn toast.
Soup lovers, there’s a delicious chicken and corn soup awaiting you and for the traditional lovers of the beef, lamb, pork or veggie dishes, they’re there.
Deep fried chicken and/or pork, tons of fried rice and some nice simple desserts, cheese or carrot cake. Tea and coffee provided. You take care of your own drinks. There’s a well-stocked bar to cater for that.
For a quick, tasty and inexpensive lunch, you won’t go wrong by ducking into the Great Wall on the highway end of George Street.
Now that the secret’s out. Go and enjoy.
Diners, Great Wall is also open for dinner and serves wonderful Chinese, Szechuan and Cantonese meals.
For those who want private functions – there’s a room set aside for all of that – a great place for the office or works party, whatever the occasion.
Steph and her crew is waiting to meet and and greet you whenever you stop by The Great Wall, be it for the superb smorgasbord lunch or for an equally great dinner.
Oh! by the way. You can order from the a la carte menu, even at lunchtime – and of course, you can take away.
