The initial report from the 2020 Summitt is available and the rural segment is interesting.

The ABC cites a report that say there are way more men in the country.  No wonder there is a TV show with city women meating country men, but how come the women are leaving?

The 2008 Country Matters – Social Atlas of Rural and Regional Australia, which describes the patterns of social and economic change of people and communities in non-metropolitan Australia, is available.

Suvey released today says rural Australia’s are nternt savvy amongst other things

Despite 62.2% of Australians living in regional areas believing the cost of
living is greater in rural areas than in the city, nearly 70% say they
prefer to remain in the country than move to the big smoke.

The 2020 Summit is taking shape with the delegates announced.  The Future directions for rural industries and rural communities has published a background paper.  It makes interesting reading.  I wonder whether a broader range of country people want to find a way to talk about these issues and I thought I’d try and kick off the debate.
