Port Macquarie’s state member for parliament for the past 12 years, Robert Oakeshott, formally resigned yesterday.
Oakeshott is contesting the Federal seat of Lyne which has been left vacant by the retirement of Nationals representative Mark Vaile.

The State seat will now remain vacant until a by-election is held to elect a new member. The electorate office will remain open and staff will continue in a caretaker mode.
A spokesperson said staff would continue to assist constituents in making representations to NSW Government agencies and ministers but would not advoacte highly contentious or political issues.
