Australian Boating College

Based on 0 reviews |
The largest private provider of Australian PWC and Boat training.

Ray is an experienced skipper with a Master IV Certificate. He has worked in the Maritime Industry for many years, gaining a wealth of experience in all sizes of boats from 2 metres up to 20 metres, on waters from glassy calm to 4 metre, cyclonic seas. In his commercial activities his areas of operation were from Brisbane, to the tropical waters of Mackay and then north to the Whitsundays.

Under the new Boatsafe initiative he combines this experience with the ABC training package to assist new; and also experienced boaties to become safer mariners, and so enjoy their fishing and boating time on the water.

The theory session of the one-day boat courses are held in the fully air-conditioned, VMR Headquarters at the picturesque Mackay Marina, with the boatwork assessments held either at the Harbour or in the Pioneer River.

Businesses requiring their staff to have a boat licence course provided by a registered training organisation, are catered for with our weekday courses.

Ray also caters for workers from the mining towns and offshore islands.
Due to their work rosters, their geographic location, family commitments etc, a Flexible Learning Kit is available, allowing them to home study the boat course material and only come to Mackay to have the paperwork checked and do their practical boatwork assessment. Depending on numbers, this only takes about an hour of their time while in town.

Courses can be arranged at the mining towns if numbers permit.

    Marine Radio Usage

Whilst primarily used for boats traveling in partially smooth and open waters, a marine radio is a useful safety device to carry on all boats as it enables voice communication of distress, obtaining up to date weather forecasts, and general ship to ship and ship to shore communications. It is used extensively by the volunteer rescue organisations as a log on/ log off mechanism for recreational craft.

A marine radio is preferable to using a mobile phone, as it is a general broadcast communication, rather than one to one communication facility. This means that a vessel close to you may pick up your distress call and be able to render immediate assistance, rather than seeking assistance by phoning a distant source of help. We advise carrying both a mobile phone and a marine radio.

Australian Boating College's "How to Cross Coastal Bars Safely" DVD

This acclaimed Australian Boating College dvd offers skippers a comprehensive and action packed training dvd for crossing coastal bars. It covers the various handling techniques for different sizes and types of vessels, and also shows what happens when things go wrong.

In order to provide skippers an informative training dvd about driving through bars, we set out to show not only the right way to do it, but also how not to. Boats were flipped, swamped, run aground and people lost overboard (recovered later though, you'll be happy to know).

Professionally produced, the production took 6 months, and involved a full team of rescue and tow boats, as well as helicopters, salvage divers, and on-site medical support. Filming was done on broadcast quality Betacam cameras, and involved 2 land cameras, 1 boatcam, and an underwater camera. 6 engines and 1 boat were wrecked.

Tens of thousands of this dvd have been sold around the world. It is the best coastal bar training dvd ever produced, and nothing will ever better it because of the huge risks involved in production.
