  • Ben Harper is coming next year and he’s great.  Seasick Steve was there last year and I think is coming again, he’s amazing.  WomAdelaide is a little more serious.  I grew up in South Africa and can’t stand the African thing so I’ve given it a wide berth.

  • We had a friend in her mid 30’s who moved to Byron Bay for a little dating action.  Unfortunately for her all the men in her catchment i.e. 35-45 were dating way younger woman.  The 50+ casanova is a common Byron occurrence.  She had a very slow year on the dating front and returned to Melbourne.

  • Hi Janet, I agree I keep telling my kids that people make judgements about you based on a few basic things and manners are one of them.  I remember going out with a really attractive woman but the minute she picked up her knife and fork I realised she was no where near as sophisticated as she appeared. I agree I think manners have gone off the agenda but I think they matter.  I’m not talking about some of the old fashioned things I was taught but good manners are still important.

  • Regardless of how this started the simple fact of the matter is economic growth was always going to stop and it was always going to be ugly when that happened.  Most people in Australia have everything they need and more.  You can only have so many shoes, TV sets, iPods etc.  Once you have all of that there is really no reason to buy anymore.  Now people have got to the point of saying “how much more do I need” they stop buying – unfortunately it’s taken the crisis for a lot of people to say this.  My prediction is that if the crisis were over tomorrow we would not go back to spending.

Also thank god the heat came off housing.  The obsession with houses, prices, real estate was so boring.

  • If you still have time before you retire you should be OK. Since superannuation involves buying units on a regular basis, you’re now buying units at a huge discount because there are a lot of blue chip shares undervalued. So you’re buying bargains and you should be OK.

  • Hey Mamma – Animal, Vegetable Miracle is about a family who live off food grown within 50 miles of their home.  Sounds boring but it’s a really compelling read.  I loved it.

  • Good luck with it.  Open Ground is really well done and a highly professional organisation.  Their CD’s are good as well.  I regularly use one of the meditations.

  • I agree poodles are smart.  It’s one of the breed characteristics.  One of the reasons you get all these new designer breeds like spoodles is because spaniels are nice but thick and poodles are clever.

  • Hi Bugman, my advice is tell your story.  Be clear, authentic and factual.  People are interested.  The phonies show though and if you are genuine you’ll have a genuine story.  People look for differentiation and it seems you have a good differentiator.

  • There is a group called Open Ground that teach mindfulness meditation.  They have a website and are pretty well organised with training all over the place.  They also sell very good CD’s.
