  • Our lovely friendly town

Innisfail is a beautiful little town surrounded by lush tropical rainforest, mountains, sugar-cane and banana pantations. Great fishing as the river runs through the town. Innsifail is a really peaceful place to live and visit and there are only 2 sets of traffic lights. There is actually a lot to do in the area. Our main attraction is the enchanting world famous, heritage listed Paronella Park, which has guided tours. You can even have a special and romantic wedding ceremony here. There is a wide range and really affordable accommodation. There are 3.5 star motels located in town, then there is the Riverlodge Tropical Motel, an old music school built in the 1950’s. It is an older building the rooms are comfy and clean with a few homely comforts. The best two accommodation choices are the Barrier Reef Motel and the Riverlodge. Then there are a couple of Bed and Breakfasts, the nicest one is the Flying Fish Point Bed and Breakfast, right on the sea. The barrier reef motel has 41 rooms, has a licensed restaurant and good meals. Some rooms are self-contained and there is a pool. The Riverlodge has a great family style room, a guest barbeque located poolside, crockery and cutlery provided free of charge. In- house meals are provided for group bookings and during the weekdays. The RSL is fantastic, and affordable, so is Roscoes Piazza and Pasta where you can really pig out on a fantastic and tasty buffet. I’ve heard the Goondi pub is a terrific place for a steak and Brothers Leaugues club has terrific meals and pokies. Etty bay is absolutely beautiful, where the rainforest meets the reef. You can even see rare and striking Cassowaries roaming along the beach and Caravan Park, but don’t feed them. This beach is a dog free Zone, to protect the Cassowaries. Unfortuneately a lot of Cassowaries have been killed by cars speeding and dog attacks over the years. So do drive slowly and watch out for them. Don’t go too close to them, as friendly as they may seem, especially when they have chicks with them. The Caravan Park, is a great spot if you have a van and are looking for a seaside holiday. Not really reccommended for big rigs though, steep descent. The amenities are really clean and there is a kiosk, cafe there too. There is a stinger net there you can swim in, in the summer and a surf lifesaving club. Fantastic little unspoilt, prisitine and clean spot, great for kids especially on low tide, because they can explore the rock pools for marine creatures. Mamu Canopy Walk is terrific value $ 18 dollars per person, where you can walk through the rainforest canopy and walk out onto caterlevered platforms that look over the North Johnstone River. This tourist attraction is wheelchair friendly and easy walking. The Johnstone River Crocodile farm is terrific value and kids just love it, even big people gives you a whole new knowledge and respect for crocodiles. There are lots of pristine rainforest walks and swimming holes, especially on the drive down to Innisfail. The town centre is friendly and laid back with some little specialty stores, Iga , Coles , Woolworths. There is every-thing you need here in this town. There are a couple of Caravan Parks that are affordable the August Moon and Mango tree Caravan parks are the two best and pride themselves on being really clean.
