  • You can’t go passed a beautiful wooden toilet seat to park your cheeks on as far as I concerned. No more dead legs as the hard edge of the plastic ones cut off the circulation.

  • Some good points. Some others I would recommend are;

    - grow some vegetables of your own, even if this is a pot in your kitchen that you grow mustard greens in for sandwiches. It is amazing what you can grow simplu=y in pots…strawberries, tomatoes, lettuce, silver beet etc

    -have a storage area and freezer then buy more when things are on special. Take advantage of the two for one deals etc. We never eat meat that is not on special.

    -Do not buy veges at the supermarket unless on special and even then, you can generally find them elsewhere cheaper.

    -Know your prices. How can you know if something is a good deal if you do not know your prices!

    -Watch what gets rung up at the cashier / checkout. I would hazard a guess and say every third receipt is incorrect. The supermarket actually scores well here but they do make mistakes. Double billing , not giving ther specials etc. The vege shop is the poorest where I live as they use young people on the till who have an extremely poor knowledge of them and often bill one thing as another which for some reason, is ALWAYS more expensive!

  • Nice to read a series of common sense replies. One of my big bug bears is sodium or salt. It is really bad for you and yet it is almost impossible to avoid. The recommended daily allowance is exceeded by something like 90% of the population. It can be hard to give up like most things but when you do, like smoking, it is hard to imagine you ever used it.
    Getting the most out of life is a matter of harm minimisation not ellimination I find. We all know we should exercise, get a good sleep, avoid being overweight, drink in moderation, don’t smoke, minimise the amount of ref meat you eat but if you can do all those things at least some of the time, you are doing very well. So I certainly try all of the above except one which shall remain my secret. But I compensate by doing the rest and eating ten servings of vegetables a day and at least two fruits.

    I have passed the 160,000 kms mark, have a regular service and checkup and apart from a few nicks in the paint work, am running smoothly!

  • A country that fights for peace; has one of the highest rates of church going yet the highest rate of infidelity and murder, tackles every international issue with moralistic veracity but is incapable of honesty itself, uses 25% of it’s GDP in the military and yet has not won a war, promotes freedom and democracy simply to open new markets for its to plunder- if there is any chance of change it will be with Obama but the dead weight of conservatism will cause him to drown.

  • If you watch the news on TV at some stage you will be confronted by the economic news. I know a little about these things, very little, brother of Stuart Little. Seriously, is it really of any interest to most people other than what the effects might be? The rising of this the falling of that, what is the impact. Money savvy people I can assure you will not be sitting around the television glued to the news for information like this, they will have it already from the internet.
    So could this section of the news be replaced with a summary and the space filled with something more interesting?
    Or is it just me?
