There were busloads of Bathurstians, carloads of crafty Carcoreans and brave souls who chose to train it down to Rosehill, last weekend for the annual stitches and craft show. Parramatta and surrounds did not put on the best of weather, but what the heck, all the activities were indoors – two pavilions and three levels of them
Bathurstians love their crafts and this is evident by the many crafting, quilting, scrapbooking and other crafty outlets in this city. They are legion, and the people in the know are there, ready to lend a helping hand to the newbies.
The craft show was a magnet attracting them from all over. Your scribe chatted to people from as far away as Cairns and being the only person of male persuasion on the shuttle bus – free from Parramatta, it was an interesting experience.
I’m not an expert on crafts by any means, but for those who were, it was paradise.
Now, here comes the hard part. For the crafty hobbyist there was going to be an awful lot to remember, such as who’s who and who does what, and where on earth, or Australia can I find an outlet to satisfy my needs.
Bingo! There is an oasis and there it was, slap dab in the middle of the exhibition; a pleasant little stand under the name of Creative Addictions.
A young couple, Ian and Helen Whitfield created this wonderful concept but because of this, Australia has now an online craft directory to bring the art and craft industry together in one place, all at the click of a mouse.
At the time of filing this story, Creative Addictions™ was one week young. Helen and Ian were bubbling over with enthusiasm and were getting a lot of positive feedback – requests to subscribe to a newsletter.
Helen is crafty addict and as such is suitably fitted to create such a website.
Until recently the owner of one of Sydney’s largest art & craft markets for 10 years, Helen also owns a ceramic and mosaic studio and for years has heard the needs of novices, craftspeople and suppliers alike.
So, what’s the idea behind such a website?
“That’s easy,” said Helen. ” . The launch of the website Creative Addiction will see the art and craft community with their own forum to promote, search, advertise, share, meet and “connect creative people with creative places”.
“Okay, so how is it going to help potential clients?
With the art and craft world being so fragmented, it’s a battle to find all the wherewithal needed to start a new craft, get the right supplies and someone to guide you.
This is where Creative Addictions comes into play. The website is set to become the ultimate art and craft resource in Australia and creative addicts will be able to find whatever or whoever they need at one site.
To fulfill their needs the website will help crafters find their local craft suppliers, workshops, craft events and online stores. In addition, they will find ideas and tips, a ‘how to’ section as well as interesting articles and inspiration. It will be a platform for guilds and craft groups to endorse themselves, as well as craftspeople to promote themselves and their products.
Creative Addictions knows no age barrier. The team has created a monthly kids project, a boon to mums, teachers or childcare workers.
Subscribers will receive a newsletter with projects and products, a what’s on event calendar and the latest gossip in the craft world!
This is going to be a boon indeed for the crafty folk of Bathurst and Creative Addictions is only an email or phone call away.
