We’re all looking for new and innovative ways to minimise our impact on the environment – whether we’re building, purchasing or just in daily life.
You might be one of
those fabulous people who are already practicing sustainability… so why not seize this opportunity to shout about it?
It’s your turn to show off your eco-friendly work or designs – whether you’re a solar panel specialist, an eco-friendly skin product maker or an energy saving light-bulb guy. All exhibitors are being invited to showcase their product or service at the Southern Cross University Sustainable Living Expo, to be held in Lismore this October.
This year’s expo is shaping up as a major event for our happening country town, to be held at the beautiful Lismore Showgrounds on the weekend of the 18-19 of October.
Organiser Jessica Huxley from Lismore City Council says over 75 businesses have already registered as trade exhibitors, speakers and workshop presenters on the sustainability themes, with over 100 expected by the time the expo opens its doors.
“We’ve got a huge range from streamlined tanks, solar hot water and power, local food, forestry, housing design including hemp masonry, emission-friendly vehicles, Landcare groups, waste water reuse… through to the more socially sustainable groups like indigenous storytellers and speakers from the Living Library… and there’s plenty of room for more!” she says.
“Our ultimate goal is to help people living in our region and surrounding communities to improve the environmental and social impacts of their day-to-day business practices, and lifestyles, so naturally, we want to see as many businesses, organisations and individuals as possible participating.”
Of course, it’s not all about the exhibitors – the weekend program is enormous with workshops, talks, interactive and static displays, demonstrations, as well as local produce and local music. “Lismore is going to be an absolute hive of activity on this weekend in October!” says Ms Huxley.
“There’ll also be a strong NSW schools presence, so the parent can rest assured there’ll be plenty happening for the kids,” she adds.
The event has attracted major speakers and presenters, including experts in climate change, permaculture and renewable energy. “We’ve also attracted some big sponsors, including Southern Cross University, Norco, REX and Country Energy – we definitely appreciate their support!”
Ms Huxley is seeking expressions of interest from exhibitors from all sectors – business, community groups, non-profit and non-government organizations.
Exhibitors interested in booking a place at the event may contact Jessica on 6626 2000, or email Jess onjessica.huxley@lismore.nsw.gov.au or go to the website www.livingexpo.com.au to access application forms.
