Lake Eppalock.
From an almost ghostly area (well, there were only people driving to see the state of the base of the mighty waterway or diehard fisher people or motor bike owners who really visited often) Lake Eppalock is now buzzing with people of all ages and interests.
Today there were lots of people, young and not so young, heading down to the fast flowing Campaspe River which runs past the spillway at Lake Eppalock in order to try their hand at fishing. Asking one young bloke whose family was packing away their gear into the car (parked at the spillway carpark,) he proudly told me that he had caught a red fin today. Only a couple of minutes earlier I had spotted another family taking pics of a large fish they had caught, the mother suggesting they eat it for dinner that night (and yes it was a big ‘un.)
Over at the boat ramp below where the Eppalock Hotel had once stood (see the story here) which only last year had been so dry that we had driven down to its edge and touched dirt, is now alive with keen boating and jet skiing people and families picnicking etc. One group that consisted of three families, were visiting from Melbourne; they had stayed for the weekend and were returning home tonight.
