Just around the corner

Or right across Australia

It all started with one bloke – a bloke named Neville Dawson - one truck, some passengers and a few parcel deliveries.

That small yet ambitious beginning became one of the great success stories of Bathurst – Dawson's Removal and Storage, a company identified their big green trucks that travel up and down the highways of Australia.  It's Sydney to a sausage that you've passed one.

Turn back the hands of time to 1948 and young Neville had just finished his apprenticeship as a motor mechanic secured a truck and began his taxi-truck service.

In 1960, he was able to purchase a ute and a panel van and expanded his business to include mail and grocery deliveries. Neville's one-man operation expanded to two when his wife became an integral part of the team.

Two years later, the Dawsons were able to open an office in George Street and he began a seven-day-a-week operation with a milk run to Oberon and then added daily runs to Blayney and Orange.  Not too bad for an enterprise given the state of the roads back then.

Retail giant Walton's contracted Neville and his team to deliver furniture for its customers, which very quickly expanded into household furniture removals.

Naturally, more business created the need for bigger premises, so, in 1967, an 8000 sq.ft. warehouse was built for furniture storage.

Walton's awarded Dawson's a contract to move its new furniture from Sydney to Bathurst and westwards.  It was then time to expand the premises, and a need for  metropolitan accommodation became paramount. Premises were rented at Chipping Norton near Liverpool to receive other goods.

Given that good service attracts more business, retailers Norman Ross and Myer-Grace Bros came on board and they, too, contracted Dawson's to move their freight from Sydney. It was time for bigger premises again, this time a 10,000-square-foot facility at Wetherill Park near Fairfield in Sydney's southwest, a building that is still part of Dawson's Sydney branch.  The other branch is at Dubbo.

Dawson's moved from Durham Street to its present Kelso home in the 1970s.

With a team of 30 people, 15 trucks, eight company service vehicles, and a reputation second to none, you can be sure of a good move from the big green trucks,  be it just around the corner, or right across Australia.
