We have been recognised not only by the Institute for Trade Skills Excellence as a high-performing provider nationally, but also by other national and state bodies. In both 2004 and 2005 we were judged the best large training provider in the state of New South Wales. Further in 2004 we received the award of Australian Large Training Provider of the year and were shortlisted in the top three in Australia for this award again in 2005.

We were also a State Finalist in the Excellence in People Management category of the 2007 Australian Human Resources Institute Awards, and were judged as being in the top three organisations in Australia for people management – which is evidence that not only can you train for a great career through the Institute, you can also have a great career working with us.

We can meet your learning needs whether you live locally, nationally or internationally, providing comprehensive vocational education and training to meet industry requirements.

The North Coast Institute consists of 17 campuses located between the Great Lakes region in the south to the Tweed Heads region on the Queensland border. The Institute has Registered Training Organisation (RTO) status under the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF). We also have ISO 9001:2000 certification. The Institute has also received two- and three-gold star ratings by the national body, the Institute for Trade Skills Excellence for our Aquaculture, Carpentry, Metals & Engineering and Electrotechnology course delivery.

As one of the leading education and training providers in Australia we place great emphasis on innovation and responsiveness, with new flexible learning and workplace training strategies ensuring that a whole range of individual learner needs may be met.

The Institute’s range of qualification levels and scope of our programs means courses are available to meet the requirements of students ranging from entry-level learners and school-leavers to people making a career change and higher education graduates seeking specialised vocational expertise. We also offer a range of commercial and customised programs and services for industry clients.

  • State-of-the art facilities

The Institute’s 17 campuses are focused on providing the highest quality of education and training for business and the community. We’re constantly updating and improving our facilities. New campuses include Kingscliff, Wollongbar and the Coffs Harbour Education Campus, which incorporates a senior high school and campus of Southern Cross University. This campus offers a unique learning environment with advanced academic pathways and excellent facilities for its TAFE programs in areas including tourism and hospitality, computing and engineering.

The innovative Trenayr Campus near Grafton is meeting a national need with its national fishing industry, aquaculture and environmental programs. Trenayr Campus also offers equine programs for the local community and nationally.

The Institute’s Djigay Centre of Excellence in Aboriginal Education at Kempsey Campus is a pace-setter nationally, tailoring vocational education and training to achieve optimum outcomes for students from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

  • Client focus

The North Coast Institute provides comprehensive support for our clients, from ensuring information on courses is widely available, to study assistance, career and personal counselling.

Campus canteens and child care facilities and active student associations contribute to positive and friendly learning environments.

Computer linked libraries and associated learner support centres with internet access provide students with excellent learning support resources.

With a focus on equipping people for jobs, the Institute makes special provision for disadvantaged and minority groups, with expert staff responsible for ensuring access to the best vocational education for people with disabilities, women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other groups with special needs.
