I should note that as I type this, I have a squirmy little body lying half on my lap, half on my arms, so please excuse any typos!

Polly (whose name has changed more times than I can keep up with here) has been safe at home for exactly twenty four hours. Am I in love? Eight different sorts of yes!

She’s possibly the cutest, loveliest, liveliest little thing I’ve ever been lucky enough to have in my hands. Not to mention the smartest: only one minor accident so far!

Mostly her time has been divided between chewing the carpet, chewing her bed, chewing my fingers, chewing the wood basket, chewing the corner of the tiles, chewing tuffets of grass, chewing pine cones, and occasionally, when she’s feeling bored, chewing her toys. Her teeth are tiny and white and surprisingly sharp.

Also: she’s perfect. Have I mentioned that bit yet? Because she is. Completely and utterly perfect. Even if she’s too small for the lovely purple coat we bought her; she’s having to jaunt around in a raggedy, makeshift jumper we constructed from an old cardigan sleeve. At least she’s warm!

Tomorrow we’re off to the vet for her health check and eight week vaccinations. I’m looking forward to introducing her to some new people, but a little worried that she’s not quite ready for it yet. She was the first pup to leave her litter and was naturally a bit upset as we drove her away. While she’s certainly switched into viewing us as her family now, I’m inclined to hold back a bit rather than push her too much too soon. Has anyone got any thoughts on this?

Apologies for the scrappiness of this post—it’s getting towards doggy tea time!

Lastly: the promised photos are up at my flickr account, here: http://flickr.com/photos/26644581@N08/

Unfortunately we’re in the middle of a dark, cloudy couple of days and my camera’s not coping too well with her lack of stillness in combination with the low light, but never mind!
