Cooma is the largest town in the Snowy Mountains and the home of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme, the biggest civil engineering project ever undertaken in Australia.

There are many events on during the year like the Snowy River Festival, a three day celebration of this unique Australian way of life. The Annual Celebration of Motorcycles is a great event offering displays, live music, test rides, short film competition, kids attractions, Jewellery and leather stalls and other stalls selling all manner of motorcycle related goods. Also there are The Cooma Rotary Markets are held on the third Sunday of every month. Up to 50 stalls supplying a variety of merchandise; craft, vegetables, nursery, garden implements, bric-a-brac, woodwork, second-hand books, prints, pottery, clothing, lavender products, etc and Jumping Castle for children.
