If the internet filters are for swearing Outbush then all public forums will be shut down:(

I thought the filters were supposed to be about pornography and the like?

As someone else mentioned no matter what prevention is brought in the very ones using the web in harmful ways will find a means to carry on regardless......

To bring in 'anti-smacking' LAWS were a perfect example......by making an IDEAL TO ASPIRE TO (no smacking)...a LAW...is beyond ignorant:(

Making it a law, only brought focus on the innocent and left the structures in place to protect children from serious harm overwhelmed with the trivial.......a disgusting lack of knowledgeable insight seems to par the course for those in positions of power.....*sigh*

(phew...can finally post again!)

Plainswanderer_large People accessing the internet for illegal purposes are already being tracked and can be identified. There is no such thing as anonimity on the 'net. What the filter supposedly proposes to do is block access to those sites that contain illegal content. But it is very easy to bypass the filter. It is also very easy to shift your website if it contains such material. It seems to me that the solution is to educate people about how to avoid what it is that they don't want to see. We arleady do that with TV and with movies. Why can't the government trust adults to make informed decisions? Why do they think they have to be the ody that decides what we do and do not have access to?

Not necessarily, some of the forums I've been on Automatically filter language, true their moderated Forums, a forum can do what they like with regard to which group of people they attract, I'm simply concerned that when the Big Search Engines come in a display it through a search which had nothing to do with it, it's a problem. I feel they only keep it like that because a Filter will Slow-down the search & people are hooked on how fast their results come though. Believe it or not, it's not that much slower and it's not even like waiting 7 minutes for your favourite computer game to load by Tape!  People are so impatient these days too which leads to all kinds of problems!

As someone else mentioned no matter what prevention is brought in the very ones using the web in harmful ways will find a means to carry on regardless......

It's a relevant point and I agree on the basis of what Pete Seeger said in 1963 about "Your kids are going to learn it anyway!", being over protective of your children is quite an issue and life is cruel and yes I heard the other kids using the "F" word at Primary School in 1983, so at the end of the day it's all about what sort of person you want to be. Life is hard, but for myself the best I can get out of it is to enjoy what I get out of it. Bad things could happen, though their simply things to deal with when they happen.

Img_1980_large Some public forums have each post read before being posted, which can take days before you see what you wrote!!!.....give me all the swearing and harrassment when on a public forum thanks.....simply an indicator of the people using them and that in itself can be educational:)>

Finally, a bit of sensible policy in the election. Joe Hockey announced that the Coalition would not support an internet filter!! Yay.

Now, if only they WOULD support the NBN we'd all be OK.
